A cross between Star Wars: The Old Republic and EVE Online, but with a lot more taking people apart with swords, and admins occasionally coming down as dragons and eating half of the player base. Players as individual knights uniting together to work for the great (and more minor) houses, who are constantly at war, as they also pursue the fascinating personal stories that are the hallmark of the series along the way. Imagine Westeros-flavoured versions of Total War, Dragon Age, or Shadow of Mordor – and we should have all of those! But I feel like what would really make the most of this hugely detailed world is some kind of blockbuster MMO (not the announced, browser-based version with an official HBO tie-in that seems to have died a quiet death on the vine).
You don’t even have to think hard to come up with game genres that could work awesomely in this universe. Time to prise the rights away from these no-name studios (not you, Telltale) and get a developer with a solid track record and some triple-A resources behind putting the huge, detailed universe, great characters and horrible, horrible betrayals of this franchise to proper use.
